I don’t think I’ve ever owned a vehicle that needs anything more than my F250 needs these bad boys.

Kinja'd!!!

Right now, my truck has five tires total, counting the spare. Of those five, one is a LT tire...the right rear is a General Grabber 235/85/16. The front pair are passenger car tires, Goodyear 225/70/16, and the left rear is a Mastercraft in 245/75/16. The spare is a Goodyear (different model) in 255/70/16. So again, my truck really needs these tires.

I went with a 285/75/16, which I guess is like a 33" tire. I got a stupid price on them online, and my buddy will mount and balance them for an equally stupid price. They’ll give my truck a really great look, plus they’re actually properly rated for the weight of the truck, which I hear is pretty important. I mean seriously, look how tiny my front tires are:

Kinja'd!!!

New ones will be a full 2 inches taller than those.

Next project after this is going to be the rust on the cab...I’m going to get the cab corners fixed, which will make the cab rust free. The bed looks like shit, but it’s solid enough for now and I need to find a good replacement.

Darn. I was going to reccomend Mud Terrain KM2's. One of the best off road tires we have ever used. When I get the GX eventually that’s what’s going on it.

Nah I can’t afford to chew up MT’s I wouldn’t use MT’s anyway, I’m never really in the mud.

4wheelparts.com, in my size they come to $196 a tire with free shipping right now...$30 a tire cheaper than Discount Tire.

I almost went with Generals or Coopers to save a few dollars, but then the price was close enough that I went with what I really wanted. Plus I'm going to have the truck a while, so why bother skimping on tires?

The temptation is high... I need new tires but not desperately yet. 285/75r16 is my size though, I assume thats e rated as well right?

We’ve always run mud restrains but of course the FJ40 doesnt get DD. We've found they're actually fantastic on rock. We don't do much mud.

Yup, 3750lb rating, which is way more than I'll ever use but I like to have the option. They'll sell you road hazard for another $160 if you want it, too.

My Blazer has wild country all-terrains, the OE Chevy tire I think, and I popped two of them going 15 km/h up a 4x4 road. My friend came to rescue me with spare wheels in his S10 with BFG all-terrains, absolutely no problems doing 50 km/h or so. I was jealous

I would never get anywhere close to that weight rating, but the 10 ply has been proven to be more durable than the 8 ply for me for sidewalls

Not that bad, for a BOF SUV it’s fairly light at just over 2 tons. That’s why the tires aren’t bald by now.

The tires probably weigh 1/4 of the vehicle... I had to lift a new spare out of the Tundra the other day. Ended up just rolling it off the bed.

Mine are surprisingly light, actually. For 33x12.5 on 17" wheels, that is.

If he wants to take a 5-6 hour road trip to Nashville, we’re going to have probably around 10 or so FJ’s of all gens next Saturday. I’m heading back from Knoxville for the weekend.

We have 15" wheels. It’s amazing how much more expensive per inch wheel the tires get...

I got mine for $240 a corner, so it could be worse, like the ones that the P.O. paid $305 for. I would not give a penny and some pocket lint for Pro-Comp Extreme ATs.

Haha that means its around $15 for every extra inch of rim. We only buy BFGs here though. The last set we had on the FJ for 10 years before we decided to move on. 10 is old for any tire.

I have Mastercraft Courser MXT’s, and they’ve been great for a cheap tire.

Awesome choice! BFG ATs are pretty much a cornerstone of modern Wheeling.

Crusty will be getting a set when these Falkens are dead.

I have bfg at2s on the rear of my rwd tundra and bfg ats on the front (fixing that this year :) ) and they’re Mac Daddy. Also: snow rated! Bally lovely things. Took em up to the sierras last month and was not the biggest wiener on the road.

Very happy value added a+++

Make sure your alignment is good and you stay up on rotating your tires. All-Terrains can be quite picky and will just die a choppy, noisy, rough, quicker than expected death if not taken care of.

No problem! I see it on PLENTY of Super Duty trucks at work, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to put it out there.
